Valentine’s Day. A day when love blossoms, when beauty isn’t ephemeral. A day when couples jump into each other’s arms and say ‘I love you’ in a beautiful unison, as if they didn’t say it before. A day when that special someone of mine gets a rose. Be it blue, pink, yellow, white or otherwise. Someone who I adore more than myself. Can you guess who?
Yes, its my twin. Zavier Ciel. My brother. The feeling of him just hugging me is enough to send shivers, tingly and happy ones, down my spine. I’ve always loved him. I thought it was normal at first, for after all, we are brothers. But that one day changed my whole life. It changed how I looked at my brother. It changed everything.

“Happy Valentine’s Day, bro!” shouted Zavier into my ear.
It was Valentine’s Day, and Zavier had remembered it. Oh, how cute he was when he woke me up like clockwork on this special day. I reluctantly lifted my eyelids up just to see Zavier’s cute face, smiling at me, albeit turned upside down. I smiled and sat up, turning around to look at my brother. I was tempted to kiss his face off, but held, as I didn’t want to scare him. He looked at me with his big, inquiring eyes and presented me with a small wrapped box.
“….What is in that box?” I asked with a yawn
“You’re gonna have to open it to find out,” replied Zavier with a somewhat cheeky tone in his voice.
“Mmm… okay..” I whined.
I grabbed the minuscule box and unwrapped it, to find nothing but a little piece of paper with the words ‘I love you bro!’. Oh, how gullible could my brother be. Of course he loved me, if not, would he allow me to sleep with him every night?
“What’s this supposed to mean?” I asked with a firm tone.
“What is written on the paper, baka,” said Zavier. He had a habit of calling me an idiot in Japanese.
I looked quizzically at the piece of paper, and finally understood what it meant. It meant that he wanted something from me, of course. Something good. Something… something… unexpected. I had a rough idea, but I kept it low, I didn’t want to surprise him too much.
“Okay then, I get it,” I said, lightly punching him on the arm.
“Nnn, okay. I’ll see you later!” replied my twin as he got up to get out of the room, leaving a somewhat rosy scent in his wake. I stared at the door for a minute or two, for me to regain my composure. I removed myself from the tangle of bedsheets and blankets and went to the bathroom to preen myself before going out to get the gift for my twin. Stretching, I walked out of our apartment and strode towards town. I went around window shopping when I found the thing I wanted. A rose. Not just any rose, a red one. To represent my undying love for my twin. Oh, no, he doesn’t know that I loved him that way, he only knows that I love him as a brother. How wrong he was.
“That’ll be three dollars, young man. Buying this for your girlfriend?” asked the florist cheekily as I handed him the money.
“Nope!” I answered cheerfully, “Buying this for my twin!”
The florist stared at me like I had a giant bug crawling across my face before retreating into his shop. I shrugged and went up the street to find more stuff. I came across this shop selling chocolates in the shape of two hearts, which was appropriate, but expensive. I just sighed and went home, giving up my search of a more materialistic gift. I know my brother wouldn’t mind if I just gave him a rose, but I knew he wanted more.
That was when my mind clicked.
Of course, I could give him what I wanted to give him. A kiss, for love. How could I have been so foolish? I ran home with a grin on my face, ready to plant my lips against my brother’s, surprising him completely. I unlocked the door and jumped in, only to find my brother sobbing on the floor.
“What’s wrong, Zavier?” I asked with a concerned tone.
“I… M-my… g-girlfriend… b-broke u-u-p.. wi-with me…” stammered Zavier, in between sobs.
“Wha-at?! How could she?! Why, I oughta,” was all I could manage before Zavier plunged his head in between my crossed legs and sobbed even more. I smoothed his hair and made him look at me.
“Brother, its not the end of the world if your girlfriend breaks up with you, really. You still have… me..” I stammered nervously before my brother.
“Wha? Does tha-at m-mean you’re-” was all my brother stammered before I pulled him in for a kiss. My first kiss. Surprisingly, my brother didn’t resist. He gave in, and before I knew it, we were on the floor making out like nobody’s business. Our tongues fought for dominance before I pulled away and gave him that rose.
“Here, Zavier, I love you. I’ll never leave you as long as I live. Do you promise me the same?” I asked with a waver in my voice.
“Y-yes.. br-rother… I.. p-promise..” said Zavier.
“Happy Valentine’s Day, Zavier,” I replied, and brought him in for another deep kiss.
